SUMMARY: The Oakbrook Terrace Park District offers several varied themed camps throughout the summer. Under the direct supervision of the Camp Site Lead and Camp Director, the Camp Counselor is responsible for supervising and implementing day-to-day camp activities for their assigned groups. The Camp Counselor is a seasonal employee working between 10 and 35 hours a week dependent on camp.

QUALIFICATIONS: An Oakbrook Terrace Camp Counselor should have a background in camp settings or youth programming or have or be striving for a bachelor’s degree in education, physical education, health, or a similar area. One year of experience working with children preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1.    Attend mandatory staff orientation and trainings.
2.    Lead various activities.
3.    Instruct assigned camp activities competently and reliably.
4.    Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all campers.
5.    Develop and maintain effective public relations/communications with co-workers, campers, and parents.
6.    Clean and maintain program area.
7.    Maintain accurate records and alert Camp Director to any issues or concerns.
8.    Assist in evaluating assigned programs and make recommendations for improvement.
9.    Supervise campers daily and during special activities.
10.  Provide a positive and encouraging atmosphere.
11.  Perform all other duties as assigned.

5.    Willing to acquire First Aid and CPR training.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
1.    Maintain clean and safe camp environment.
2.    Walk up to one mile to camp activity destinations.
3.    Work well with all personalities.

PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS: The Camp Counselor may feel added pressure during pick up and drop off times as well as throughout the day. The Camp Counselor needs to remain calm in all situations. The Camp Counselor must be a good problem solver and be able to work in a fast-paced environment.

PHYSIOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS: The Camp Counselor must be able to bend, stoop, lift items weighing up to 30 pounds, turn, sit, and stand for short or extended periods of time.

ENVIORNMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS: Indoor work conditions will include lighting, temperature, and noise. Outside conditions will include extreme temperature, sunlight, and precipitation.

COGNITIVE CONSIDERATIONS: The Camp Counselor must exhibit good problem-solving ability and good judgment in keeping with the mission of the Park District.

The Camp Counselor must be in compliance with the loss prevention and safety policies of the Park District.
