SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Recreation & Fitness Manager, the Camp Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations, planning, preparation, and management of the summer camp program. This role serves as the first point of contact for parents and ensures a safe, engaging, and enjoyable camp experience for all participants. The Camp Director oversees multiple camps, including Rising Star Camp, Super Star Camp, Camp “Shorts,” and Fitness Camp.

QUALIFICATIONS: An Oakbrook Terrace Camp Director should have experience of working with children, prior teaching experience, and/or camp knowledge. The applicant should possess strong leadership skills, enthusiasm, and have excellent communication and organizational skills. The position of Camp Director requires applicants to work cooperatively with others and be self-assured.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

1.    Oversee the daily operations of the summer camp program.
2.    Serve as primary contact with parents during camp hours, addressing questions, concerns, and updates. 
3.    Manage camp supplies, ensuring materials are stocked and organized.
4.    Supervise staff on-site, providing feedback as necessary.
5.    Ensure that all staff and participants are following Park District and program policies and procedures.
6.    Attend all preseason training sessions and staff meetings.
7.    Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all campers and staff.
8.    Manage ePACT, the emergency network for camp, including emergency forms and daily sign in/outs. 
9.    Provide a positive and encouraging teamwork atmosphere.
10.  Perform all other duties as assigned.

4.    Willing to acquire CPR/AED training.
5.    Ability to provide excellent customer service.
6.    Ability to complete the essential functions of the position.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

1.    Maintain clean and safe camp environment.
2.    Assist staff as needed.

PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS: The Camp Director may feel added pressure from the day-to-day responsibilities while also assisting campers and parents. The Camp Director must remain calm and be able to address problems and issues that arise. The Camp Director must be a good problem solver and able to develop creative responses to problems.

PHYSIOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS: The Camp Director must be able to bend, stoop, lift items weighing up to 30 pounds, turn, sit, and stand for short or extended periods of time.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS: Indoor work conditions will include lighting, temperature, and noise. Outside conditions will include extreme temperature, sunlight, and precipitation.

COGNITIVE CONSIDERATIONS: The Camp Director must exhibit good problem-solving ability and good judgment in keeping with the mission of the Park District.

The Camp Director must be in compliance with the loss prevention and safety policies of the Park District.
