Natural science programs or badge activities led by LVNC staff are available
for a nominal fee. A 1 1/2 hour program will satisfy most, or all, of the
requirements for a given badge or achievement.

Daisy
Recycling
A Green Petal activity
Learn about using resources wisely. Activities may include
making a craft project from scraps, making recycled paper, or participating
in a "recycling relay."
Nature's Helpers
A Rose Petal activity
Help to make the world a better place. Depending on the season,
you may plant some seeds for your garden, make a bird treat, or make a craft
that will provide nesting material for birds.
Brownies
Creatures
Meets requirements of the Animals Try-It® (2,3,4,5)
Participants will meet some of the Nature Center animals, study animal movement,
body shapes, and communication.
Habitats and Food Chains
Meets requirements of the Eco-Explorer® Try-It (1,2,3,4)
Take a hike to look for living and non-living things, and signs of living things. Explore habitats and food chains.
Observing Animals
Meets requirements of the Watching Wildlife® Try-It (1,3,4,5)
Learn about animal communication and how some animals change
from season to season. Use a magnifying glass and other tools to study earthworms.
Make a treat or nesting material source for the animals around your house.
Juniors
Rock Hounds
Meets requirements of the Rocks Rock Badge® (1,2,3,4,8,9)
Learn about rocks, fossils, and soil. Go on a geology hunt
and start a rock collection.
Wild Things
Meets requirements of the Wildlife Badge® (1,3,4,5,7,8)
Learn about the state symbols, bird beaks, and characteristics of different animal groups. Learn to identify some common birds.
Your Environment
Meets requirements of the Your Outdoor Surroundings Badge® (2,3,4,6,8,9)
Discuss minimal impact camping and protecting the environment. Take a hike and practice classifying and describing natural objects.
Additional Programs
Fishing
(April through October)
Learn to bait a hook, cast, and fish safely in our stocked lake. Must be at least 7 years old.
Camping Fun
Put up a tent and learn about camping equipment and fire safety. Enjoy stories and songs in our campfire circle.
Reptilemania
Meet LVNC's resident turtles and snakes and learn about reptiles.
The Three Bears
Learn about the three species of bears that live in North America.
Pond Investigations
Learn about ponds and the animals that live in them.
Fees: $5.00 per scout (minimum $45.00)
Scout programs last 1 1/2 hours.
Maximum class size is 24 students. Larger groups can be accommodated but
may require additional staff and fees.
Groups must provide at least one chaperone for every 10 students.
We do not charge for chaperones.
Dress for outdoor activities. Most of our programs include outdoor
time—rain or shine. In hazardous weather, alternative activities may
be substituted.
